Frederick County Workforce Services (FCWS) offers a variety of computer and job search workshops that are open to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis. Examples of workshops offered are how to get back into the workforce, tips and best practices on resume writing, interviewing techniques, and how to prepare for a job fair. Computer classes include Introduction to Computers and Windows, Introduction and Intermediate Word, Internet Job Search, Email 101, and e-Resumes. There is a fee for Introduction to Excel. Classes are held at the Frederick County Business and Employment Center, 5340 Spectrum Drive, Suite A, Frederick, Maryland. September 16, 2008Latino Immigrants with Disabilities: Challenges in Employment
1:00-2:30 p.m. Central Time Zone (CT). In 2000 the U.S. Census data showed that there is a significantly higher percentage of working-age Latino immigrants in the United States who have a disability compared to all other groups. This can be attributed to injuries in dangerous work environments and heavy manual labor including farm work; lack of access to medical care and insurance; complex health conditions such as HIV/AIDS, diabetes and obesity; and violence. This group faces a number of challenges when it comes to accessing social services including vocational rehabilitation and job placement. Speakers will address the barriers faced by this population and some innovative programs and services that are available to assist them. Dependable Strengths (DS) is a planned sequence of experiences in which participants identify their strengths and talents, uncover hidden potential, and become motivated to strive for success. Led by CDS Master Trainers, this five-day program is designed to train professionals in the methods developed by Dr. Bernard Haldane to help people identify their Dependable Strengths and increase their employability. This training is required for Dependable Strengths Instructor Certification. In the first half of this 5-day training, you will experience the process of articulating your own Dependable Strengths and using what you learn to attract job offers.
